I loved my eldest brother Bill very much. Bill was seven and a half years older than me, so as a child we weren’t very close. Having said that, I have very happy memories of playing with Bill and Robert, our other brother with our neighbours three children on the grassy circle in the cul de sac where we grew up in Solihull. We played rounders and cricket as well as other ball games. Our parents often took us on picnics into the Cotswolds and we enjoyed wonderful holidays in Cornwall and on Anglesey. We had a wonderful carefree childhood thanks to our loving and caring parents. When our own families were growing up, we’d spend part of the Summer holidays together. It was always fun and the cousins had a great time playing together. Happy memories! In more recent years, Bill and I managed to spend more time together. We both really enjoyed meeting up in London, having lunch and then going to an art gallery to see some of the beautiful exhibitions. We always finished up having tea and cake in the members cafe. Such a treat! We were both very fond of art and I learnt a lot from Bill with his vast and widespread knowledge. We met up in Reading and enjoyed walks along the river Thames and through the Nature Reserve. Every time we met up, we just slotted back into a happy, relaxed way of being together, enjoying our caring, sibling relationship. Bill was a quiet, caring and gentle man; always ready to listen and give his brotherly support when possible. I will miss my big brother. With love, Caroline xxx
